Mt Kurama Tengu is embodied by Sōjōbō, the chief of the tengu, who is revered for his wisdom and martial arts prowess. He is said to train notable figures like Yoshitsune, merging the legendary insights of the tengu with the hero’s journey, thus blending spirituality and physicality in Japanese folklore.

Legend

Sōjōbō resided atop Mt Kurama where he taught warriors advanced techniques. Yoshitsune, one of Japan's most famous samurai, became his disciple, honing skills that would later shape his legendary status, underscoring the intertwining fate of humans and the mysterious tengu.
