Shintō Taiseikyō

A Confucian-Shintō sect founded by Hirayama Seisai, recognised among the Thirteen Sects in 1882.

Definition

Founded in 1879 by the bakumatsu official Hirayama Seisai (1815–1890) as a synthesis of Shintō, Confucian ethics, and elements of Yoshida Shintō. The sect stresses reverence for the imperial ancestors, household ancestor rites, and moral self-cultivation (taisei, "great accomplishment"). Recognised in 1882 and headquartered in Tokyo.
