Sekai Kyūseikyō

A Shintō-derived new religion founded in 1935 by Okada Mokichi, known for jōrei healing and natural agriculture.

Definition

Founded by Okada Mokichi (1882–1955) after he left Ōmoto and received revelations identifying himself as a channel of divine light. Sekai Kyūseikyō ("Church of World Messianity") teaches that an age of paradise will dawn when humanity is purified through three pillars — jōrei (channelling divine light through the open palm), natural agriculture without chemicals, and the appreciation of beauty embodied in the MOA Museum of Art at Atami. It was an early advocate of organic farming in Japan.

Etymology

sekai ("world") + kyūsei ("salvation") + kyō
