Seichō no Ie
A new religion founded in 1930 by Taniguchi Masaharu blending Shintō, Buddhism, Christianity and New Thought into a doctrine of universal life-force.
Definition
Founded in March 1930 by Taniguchi Masaharu (1893–1985), a former Ōmoto member, after the publication of his magazine Seichō no Ie. The teaching holds that all religions are streams of one truth and that humans are perfect children of the kami; suffering arises only from incorrect thoughts and is healed by reading and chanting the Seimei no Jissō ("Truth of Life") scriptures. Politically conservative for most of its history, the movement turned sharply pro-environmental and pacifist in the 2010s.
Etymology
seichō ("growth") + no ie ("house, household")
