Lusaka Musubi-no-Hi Sacred Space

Among Africa's newest Shinto sacred spaces, the Musubi-no-Hi ('Fire of Vital Union') Sacred Space in Zambia's capital was founded by a Japanese Reiki and Shinto practitioner who has worked in the country since 2015. It honors Kagutsuchi (the kami of fire, born at such blazing intensity that his birth cost his mother Izanami her life) and Futsunushi, a martial fire-deity of lightning and swords. The site follows the shinmei-zukuri style for its small altar and is used for misogi (ritual purification) practice and seasonal fire ceremonies (hi-matsuri).

Notable for

Newest documented Shinto site in central Africa; its fire ceremony practice (hi-matsuri) connects to Central African traditions of sacred fire as a point of inter-spiritual dialogue.
