Cairo Wa-Jinja (Harmony Shrine)

Established in the Maadi district of Cairo — a longtime hub for Japan's diplomatic and business community in Egypt — the Wa-Jinja (Shrine of Harmony) is a compact private shrine maintained by the Japan–Egypt Friendship Association. Its name evokes the classical ideal of wa (和, harmony or Japan), reflecting the shrine's dual purpose: honoring the kami and fostering cultural bridge-building between Japanese and Egyptian communities. Ceremonies follow the Jinja Honchō calendar and are conducted by a lay priest trained in Japan.
