Yamata-no-Orochi

Yamata-no-Orochi is a fearsome eight-headed serpent from Japanese mythology. Known for its immense size and strength, it is said to have terrorized the land, devouring maidens. The legendary hero Susanoo ultimately confronts and slays Yamata-no-Orochi, freeing the land from its tyranny. This act not only restores peace to the region but also leads to the discovery of the Kusanagi sword, which plays a significant role in future mythological narratives.

Mythology

In the Kojiki, Yamata-no-Orochi is encountered by Susanoo, who, seeking vengeance for his banishment, decides to save the last maiden of the family. He devises a plan to intoxicate the serpent using sake and slays it, retrieving the Kusanagi sword from its tail, marking an important victory against malevolent forces.
