イザナミノミコト · Creation and death

Izanami-no-Mikoto

Izanami-no-Mikoto is the goddess of creation and death, the counterpart to Izanagi. Her role in Shinto mythology is foundational, as she and Izanagi produced numerous deities and the islands of Japan. Her descent to Yomi emphasizes the themes of mortality and the unseen worlds.

Mythology

Izanami, in the creation myth, gives birth to Japan's islands and deities but tragically dies after childbirth. Izanagi’s vain effort to retrieve her from the underworld results in her transformation into a deity of death, symbolizing the finality of life.
