Izanagi-no-Mikoto

Izanagi-no-Mikoto is one of the primordial deities responsible for the creation of Japan and its kami. He is credited with the birth of many natural features and deities. His journey to the underworld to retrieve his wife, Izanami, underscores themes of life, death, and regeneration.

Mythology

In the Kojiki, Izanagi and Izanami are tasked with creating the land of Japan. After creating islands, Izanami dies during childbirth and Izanagi’s attempt to retrieve her from Yomi leads to tragic consequences, emphasizing the separation between life and death.
