Bridge-kami of Hitachi

Documented in the Hitachi Fudoki, the Bridge-kami is revered as the spirit overseeing crossings and safe travels. These kami, protecting travelers, were invoked for safe passage over rivers and paths woven across the landscape.

Mythology

Local legends suggest that the kami dwelled beneath bridges and were believed to grant safe transit or punish those who disrespected the crossing.
