Amaterasu-Ōmikami

Amaterasu-Ōmikami is the supreme deity in Shinto and the goddess of the sun. She is venerated as the ancestress of the Imperial family and represents light, order, and fertility. Her divine narratives revolve around her emergence from a cave, bringing light back to the world after an era of darkness created by her brother Susanoo’s actions. Many shrines honor her, the most notable being Ise Grand Shrine.

Mythology

According to the Kojiki, Amaterasu was born from the left eye of the primordial deity Izanagi. After retreating into a cave due to a conflict with her brother Susanoo, her absence caused a deep darkness, compelling the other kami to devise a plan to lure her out.
