Purification
Why Purification Comes Before Spiritual Power
In Shinto, the path begins with cleansing. Power without purification distorts.
Modern spiritual culture often pursues power first — abilities, attunements, gifts, identities. Shinto reverses this order. Purification comes first because anything built on an unclean field will carry that impurity forward.
When a person seeks spiritual power without purification, the heaviness in their field shapes what comes through. The result is often confusion, instability, or experiences that feel powerful but leave the person more burdened.
Misogi exists so that practice can be sincere. Cleansing makes the field quiet enough for the kami to be heard, for prayer to land, and for the person to act from clarity rather than residue.
The Order Matters
Cleanse first. Return first. Remove what does not belong first. Only then does deeper practice become safe.
