What Is Kotodama?

Kotodama is the spiritual power of words and sound in Japanese tradition.

Kotodama means the spiritual power of words. In Japanese tradition, sound is not treated as empty. Words carry force. Names carry presence. Prayer, chant, and sacred speech can shape the field.

In purification practice, sound can help bring impurity to the surface, cut through heaviness, and align the person with a cleaner spiritual rhythm.

This is why careless speech matters. Words do not merely describe reality. They participate in it.
