Esoteric Shinto
What Are Kami?
Kami are sacred presences and living forces approached through sincerity, purification, and reverence.
Kami are often translated as gods, but that translation is too narrow. Kami are sacred presences, powers, forces, intelligences, and living principles that move through nature, place, ancestry, purification, and life.
The kami are not approached through belief alone. They are approached through sincerity, purification, reverence, and right relationship.
In Esoteric Shinto Healing Arts, the kami are central because purification is not merely psychological. It is relational. The human being is restored through contact with the sacred order of life.
